Tiny Moments, Big Impact — A Conversation with Michelle & Marty Taupau

On connection, legacy, and the pieces that tell a story.

In an elegant celebration of intention and connection, Michelle and Martin Taupau partnered with renowned jeweller Affinity Diamonds to host an exclusive media cocktail evening in Brisbane—honouring life’s smallest moments with the greatest meaning.

Set against the backdrop of Affinity Diamonds’ exquisite craftsmanship and signature sophistication, the event embodied the brand’s ethos: that true luxury lies in cherishing the deeply personal milestones that shape our lives.

The evening also marked the debut of Tiny Moments, Big Impact, a beautifully curated set of conversation cards from the Taupau’s conscious stationery brand, Not Stationary. Thoughtfully designed to inspire meaningful dialogue, the collection reflects their commitment to intentional living and heartfelt connection.

To delve deeper into the inspiration behind Not Stationary and the vision for Tiny Moments, Big Impact, we sat down with founders Michelle and Martin Taupau for an intimate Q&A.

Over the years, there have been many memorable — and impactful — 'tiny moments' in your lives that we've been honoured to be part of. Do you remember when we first connected?

Michelle: Absolutely — how could we forget! We first connected with Affinity in 2016 when Marty was planning my surprise proposal. Sam and his team helped him pull off the most beautiful moment, and the engagement ring they designed together was perfect. From that very first experience, we felt like more than clients — we felt genuinely cared for.

Since then, you’ve been with us through every big milestone. You helped bring our wedding bands to life and even saved the day in Samoa when things got a little hectic! Sam and Olympia stepped in and made us feel like we were the only people in the world getting married. It was magic.

You’ve worked with the team on some truly personal pieces. How would you describe the Affinity Diamonds process and experience?

Michelle: It’s intimate. Thoughtful. Intentional. Whether it was my engagement ring, Marty’s custom 200th NRL game piece, or Ella’s stunning 21st key that beautifully honoured culture, tradition and family, Affinity always finds a way to make each piece meaningful. They listen, they guide, and they care about the story behind what they’re creating. That’s rare.

Marty: They don’t just make jewellery. They create moments and they always nail the brief, even when it’s personal or layered with meaning. It’s why we keep going back.

We started talking about this Brisbane collaboration back in April, and there have been a few changes since then! What did you envisage, and why did Affinity feel like the right partner for 'Tiny Moments, Big Impact'?

Michelle: So much changed in our lives between then and now and that’s what made this even more meaningful. Tiny Moments, Big Impact is about presence, storytelling, and connection. Affinity lives and breathes that. They’ve been a part of our biggest moments and truly understand the impact of the seemingly small things.

We knew this launch needed to feel personal. Elegant. Purposeful. Having Affinity by our side made all of that possible, and more.

Marty: Haha definitely a few tiny moments with big impact!

Both your family and Affinity Diamonds have strong roots in the Brisbane community, though you originally crossed paths in Sydney. What do you love most about living in Brisbane?

Michelle: Brisbane feels grounded. It’s vibrant, full of heart, and has this beautiful mix of culture and community. We’ve built our businesses and family life here, and watching Tiny Moments come to life in this city just felt so right.

Marty: And the weather doesn’t hurt either! But seriously, Brisbane’s got soul.

What do you hope people take away from using the Tiny Moments Connection Cards?

Michelle: That connection starts with intention. We created these cards to help people ask better questions, listen more deeply, and really see the person in front of them, whether it’s a partner, a friend, a teammate, or even yourself.

We’re all busy. We’re all distracted. These cards are a reminder to slow down and be present. Because that’s where the real impact happens, in the tiny moments that often go unnoticed.

What’s something you wish everyone knew about living a high-quality, ‘full’ life?

Michelle: That it’s not about doing more, it’s about choosing better. Better boundaries, better habits, better energy. Journaling, reflecting, living, and planning intentionally, these are the things that ground us.

Marty: You don’t get a full life by default. You have to design it. And that includes taking care of yourself, showing up for others, and being consistent, even when it’s not easy.

Seeing people using the cards in the video booth, especially some of the guys opening up, was really powerful. Were there any moments that stood out to you?

Marty: So many! One that really stayed with me was hearing some of the boys say how challenged they felt at first being asked personal questions isn’t something we always make space for. But then they said how good it felt. How refreshing it was to be really listened to.

Michelle: Then seeing people who had just met jump in the booth together and open up, and hearing the room buzzing with real conversations and laughter, that’s the power of a tiny moment. That’s exactly why we made these cards. That night our guests created connections, not just contacts!

And finally — have you got your eye on anything from the Affinity collection?

Michelle: Oh gee, what don’t I have my eye on! That necklace I wore to the launch… let’s just say I didn’t want to take it off. I might’ve dropped a few hints already!

Marty: Yeah… she’s still dropping them.
