14 Mar TRENDING: COLOURED STONES IN ENGAGEMENT RINGS
Though diamonds are a girl’s best friend and the classic choice for an engagement ring, coloured stones are a trend that continues to show up on many a celebrity’s ring finger and thus provide great ring inspiration to us all. 2017 is all about the throwback vintage ring, which we have already seen over the last few years in the revival of gold and rose gold rings. This trend will continue with the addition of more intricate designs using coloured stones as well as the more classic cuts like the oval and marquis shapes. Pink, yellow and black diamonds have always been popular, and with the influence of a few of our favourite celebrities, emeralds, rubies and sapphires are making a strong comeback.
The below are our favourites.
Definitely the stand out and the most replicated ring in 2016 was this gorgeous blonde actress’s engagement ring, consisting of a stunning light pink oval diamond (costing two million dollars), set in rose gold, with small pave diamonds around the band.
The former American Idol winner was presented with a jaw-dropping square cut yellow canary diamond ring. The ring includes a flawless yellow diamond surrounded by smaller diamonds, with diamonds embellishing the band of the ring. The ring is one of the most talked about and beautiful coloured engagement rings of all time.
Aussie cricket player Shane Warne proposed to the actress/model with a mammoth square-cut sapphire engagement ring. The ring boasts 2-carat trillion-cut diamonds on each side of an oversized 9-carat sapphire. The stones are set in a fine platinum setting.
Funny man Jason Sudeikis asked for the actress’s hand in marriage with a truly amazing ring featuring a beautiful round centre diamond surrounded by an emerald halo (to match her eyes!) and set in gold. One of the most unique engagement rings out there.
Mary Kate Olsen
This incredible vintage engagement ring is definitely one-of-a-kind, showcasing a European-cut diamond that weighs in at four carats, and surrounded by 16 sapphires. The ‘petals’ on the sides are ‘single-cut’ diamonds.
One of the first celebrities to sport a coloured gemstone engagement ring, Nicole’s was especially noteworthy, with an inverted cushion-cut pink sapphire surrounded with pave diamonds.
Sapphires, emeralds, and rubies are certainly more unusual than the traditional diamond but when it comes to taking the prize for being the most original gemstone on a celebrity engagement ring, it has to go to Tara Reid and her 12-carat citrine and diamond halo ring. The yellow coloured stone is Tara’s birthstone and blends beautifully with the actress’s skin tone and hair colour.
Sarah Jessica Parker’s character Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and The City
When Big captures the heart of Carrie Bradshaw in the final scene of Sex and the City 2 and presents the NYC diva with an eye-popping 5 carat black diamond ring set in 18 carat white gold and 80 pave diamonds, he tells her it is “because you are not like anyone else.” The rising popularity for black diamonds in engagement rings can be linked to this moment and continue to feature in engagement rings to this day.
There is no denying how much colour has been taking over the jewellery industry, and celebrities’ engagement rings and jewellery in particular. Mother Nature has provided so many remarkable gemstones to choose from, in a variety of shapes, sizes, colours, and textures, the only thing left to do is find out what is a right fit for you!
